PLANNING A DESIGN PRESENTATION

Every fashion designer knows how importation presentation is? Whether it was in your class room presentation, or any jury in a contest, or showing your clients your designs presentation is very important. The list given below is applicable to different types of projects. W e will disscuss each of the steps in sequence.

1.Purpose

Knowing the purpose of the presentation actually helps in the planning process. Is  it  going to be exhibited or a board presentation or is it ging to be a computer presentation where you present in power point or in forma a movie. Today students and designers explore different forms of media and are getting more creative day by day.

I f it is a digital presentation then you can actually develop u r designs with computer aided design, or take photo graph of your work and put in slides or record a video f your work and the process.

If it is a board or presentation on paper presentation then it requires lot of hand drawing, photograph, printouts and collage and binding. You can decide will it have sketches. If so will it be figures, flats or a combination of both and you can decide with the back grounds of the boards. It can be plain sheets, handmade papers or printed back grounds.

 

2. Focus

It is important to focus on the on you client, market or it can be mere visual focus. It is important to remember that in your presentation boards or slides need to interrelate both visually and conceptually. This is important for the entire presentation and demonstrates professional awareness.

 

 

3. Quantity

You really need to decide how many presentation boards you will require. Or how many sides will you put in your presentation. This is important as proper planning reduces work and makes it easy. Decide how meant presentation boards you will have which may contain your mood boards, design development sheets, colour board and information about fabrics and trims. The number of presentation boards can vary. I f it is a slide show please limit youe number of slide and rehearse that they end in the time allotted for presentation. A slide show can be for 10 mins 15 mins or maximum 30 mins. You don’t want your client to sleep in the mid of the presentation. Keep it short and informativeJ. Digital presentation or slide shows require high quality photographs and visuals. Kindly notice the pictures don’t get pixilated when the image size is increased.

And on the day of presentation check the laptop, pen drives, cds and projector 1 hour before the presentation

 

4. Art materials

Make sure you have all art materials like boards, colour papers, colours, pencils, brushes cutting knifes, scissors, rotaring pens and gel pens etc.Transferable lettering and boards and various adhesive.

5. Visual materials (photographs, fabrics, trims, sketches etc.)

Visuals can include—photographs, fabrics and trims, sketches that can add value to your presentation boards and give them a very professional touch.

6. Lay out

Lay out is very crucial. Every designer has different way of presenting their boards. Just remember that your arrangement should be both logical and aesthetical. Ideally it is advisable to first create a board by loosely placing the visual materials on the back ground. Once you see it balances well and aesthetically looks good then finalize by pasting them permanently.

7. Technologies or Techniques

The techniques and technologies used for creating presentation boards can vary based on two factors: time and the accessibility of equipments. Techniques can consist of labeling, computer design, colour copier, handwork, creating dimension etc.
