AN ODE TO JAPANESE TRADITION BY PANKAJ & NIDHI/ WIFW A/W 2011

The collection by Pankaj & Nidhi gives a hint of a story that revolves around 'love at first sight'. Love towards the beauty of 'sashiko no donza', a form of intricate quilting and embroidery, which is evidently worn by the fisherman community of Awaji Island. The collection takes us on a dreamy voyage to the wonderful art form practiced by the locals. The designer duo have experimented with fabrics and yarns. It celebrates the spirit of each Japanese person who lives and adhere to the theory of Yin and Yang. The use of elements like sashiko, an amazing form of stitching technique, and the other mat-like woven structures have given a new dimension to the contemporary silhouettes. This collection is a special tribute to the Japanese who have come a long way fighting the adversities with the right spirits.
